♫King Prog Descends from His Mountain Throne♫

Aside: I tried to limit one hyperlink per group. That made it progressively harder to pick examples as I went along.

It starts with a flute. It's named King Prog Descends from His Mountain Throne. I'll connect those in a moment.

Here was my comment on YouTube: "Yes! What was the genesis of this song? I'm glad you didn't rush it out and gave it some focus. I'm unsure about the color of the robes - are they pink or crimson?"

Fenris replied: "hELP, that's a lot of puns! I admire the craftwork that went into that. You have achieved a veritable quintessance of punsterism, an ambrosia, a nectar. Nice, it takes a rare bird to achieve this. Sound the gong!"

So, back to the flute intro: it's not like, uh Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, King Crimson, Focus, Genesis, or Traffic ever used them. I'll get to other instruments later.

Mumble mumble Dream Theater; Polyphia.

Enough of this!

I wish that YouTube had a repeat function because, when this came out, I had to keep clicking to satiate my desire.

The image is like a 70s prog album cover or perhaps the cover to a 70s science fiction novel: King Prog is sitting on his mountain throne in the clouds. A ring of stars forms a halo. Multicolor mist (or perhaps a nebula) swirls around above.

After the flute, it begins. King Prog has been hearing the music of the wings when he hears a rumble of something that sounds like music, but isn't. Action must be taken!

King Prog descends from his mountain throne*
He hears the rot beneath the tones
King Prog descends with a sword and scourge
He has come to purge

* There are many, many songs about kings and mountains. And Fenris could be referring to any number of them. Personally I like this reference, so I'm going to head-canon it.

King Prog means business! This almost-but-not-music must not stand!

Tin-can beats like anvil clanging?*
No lyric obscure and none left hanging?
Where are the beats based on equations?
The self-indulgent explorations?
Then a recapitulation with a twist. This time, no sword and scourge:
King Prog descends from his mountain throne
He's brought a pedal board built at home
A wall-sized synthesizer and a gong
He's brought his mellotron

Aha! Come bearing gifts!

The Hammer of the Gods he carries with him
He's come to smash the algorithms

* I kid; I kid.

Smash those algorithms, King Prog. This is a great genre that deserves more attention.
