♫Do You Expect Me to Breathe Fire?♫

Fenris joked that the band in this video could have been named "Strongly Expressed Concern Against the Machine." Some wag suggested "Peeling reflecting pool blue Day." My idea: "System of a Down Down Down Town." (Brooklyn)

The image is of an album cover (marked Demo Sessions Vol. 1). Posters in the background say "People over profits" and "Power to the people." A guitar player (Billie Joe Armstrong, perhaps?) is singing into a microphone. Chuck Schumer, with a purple mohawk, plays base. His T-shirt reads "Hey now, none of that."

The other side is running wild
Madmen dance to please a child*
In our letter, with regret
We used our strongest wording yet

* Oh, Gemini, why do you say things like, "Madmen dance to please a child" is a famous line from the poem "A Prayer for My Daughter" by the Irish poet William Butler Yeats, written in 1919.

Yup, that sounds like the current loyal opposition. There are no fecks to be had. Hey, progressives, leave me alone. The consultants tell me to be safe. That's what I'm going to do! Why would I pay attention to these DSA folks winning elections?

The only 6-line verse is pivotal:

Sure, when we knew that he had won
We could have planned and not sat, stunned
Assuaged a scared and weary nation
But, come on, man
That would have interfered
With Christmas vacation!*

* The 118th Congress kept going until December 20th, but that's not the point.

As soon as Biden started performing poorly, the Democrats should have anticipated the possibility of Trump winning a second term. Moreover, after having seen what Trump did during his first term, why weren't they busy building guard rails in the 117th? I swear, the Democrats are their own worst enemy, and that land squarely at the desk of the leadership.

Breathe fire
At last I can breathe fire
Other Democrats just stoke my ire
Now you're gonna see me breathe fire

Many of Fenris' songs end with a shift or a twist, and in this fictional world of Chuck-as-punk-rocker, perhaps it's possible. Out here, though, I think his Congressional epitaph would be something like, "Hey, still better than Harry Reid."
