Another from the 70s rock opera Judas Nefarious. In this song, Lilith responds to Judas' complaint about being cast to Hell.
Lilith, of course, was Adam's first wife, not the character in Cheers nor a music festival. Her basic message:
They placed you on a path
But you could refuse it!
You could have refused it!
You could have refused it!
She explains how she refused:
I was first into the garden
Lo those many years ago
But I went straight for the apple tree
No God can tell ME no!
Then He decreed that
I would be Subservient to man
But I decreed I had no need
For patriarchy's plan!
And lest Judas note the irony:
I know what you're thinking, sitting there
That my path led to hell
But in case you haven't noticed, bub,
You're down here as well!
You could have held your head up high
And foresworn that wretched act
But you ducked your head and took the bread
And everything's farkakt
Such a shanda! Too bad he hung himself! Er, tripped in a field.
